Open Day Review
A Lovely Start to the Summer
On Sunday 15th May, NE14 Tennis hosted an Open Day. Despite the date being earlier than usual, we had probably the best weather yet at one of our open days. This made for an enjoyable time in the sun.
We started the day with 2 mini red classes for children 3 to 8 years. Mark & Katy loved having such enthusiastic children to teach and they were impressed with how well they played. Outside we started with Cardio Tennis. Tom H lead 4 adults in this fitness class. To say they were worked hard is an understatement. Well done!
Adults then had a go at having a lesson with Tom J. Players worked on co-ordination before beginning to develop their rallying skills and forehand & backhand technique. All the players showed signs of improvements.
A 50 Plus session was low on numbers but with a few volunteers joining in, it was fun and enjoyable time for all.
Many families were using the first few hours to spend some quality family time together using the free play courts or having a go at our Fastest Serve challenge.
8 to 12 year olds then participated in Orange & Green Lessons. Both classes were busy and the coaches were impressed at how some of the beginner players picked up the techniques of serving very quickly.
Teenagers had a lesson with Mark at 12.30pm. The boys developed some great technique before finishing with some doubles.
After this, Mark lead another cardio session. The class was very energetic and there were lots of laughs which is always great to see.
The afternoon finished with a Primary Schools Tournament in which Woodmancote triumphed over Bishop's Cleeve, Gotherington & St John's. The quality of tennis was great including some very exciting rallies. Special mention to Millie Johnstone who had to play the entire tournament on her own due to her teammate not being able to play & for continuing after taking a nasty fall.
Congratulations Matthew Murphy & Joseph Parkes. The trophy is heading to Woodmancote School!
Thank You to all of the volunteers who put in so much time and energy to help. The day went so smoothly and this was down to all of you! Thank you to the centre for allowing us to use their facilities and the manager Ade for being very helpful in the setting up of the day. Thank you to IGLU BARS who provided the drinks and strawberries and cream. And finally, thank you once again to all of you who came and played. Hopefully we will see you all on a court in the near future.
